Bengt Lindström

Bengt Lindström was born 1925 in Northern-Sweden where the winter is hard, long and dark and the summer short intense with daylight throughout. Although he has since many years been living in the more pleasant climate of France, his work still reflects his heritage.

Paintings by Bengt Lindström are very characteristic - usually large figurative abstract paintings with rough lines in a thick layer of oil. The figures often reflect contrasts in nature or human relations such as good and evel or warm and cold.  The oil painting above are good examples of the work by Bengt Lindström.  These are pictures of three Viking gods, all having different powers.  To the left Baldur, the good god, who would not harm anyone, is given in warm colors - maybe heating the cold ground of the north. In the middle, Thor, the god of fire and lightning and the greatest warrier of the gods.  To the right, Loki, the deceiving bastard is illustrated.

Bengt Lindström has been very productive in graphical illustrations.  A large collection of his work is still available at very low prices as can been seen on display in the ArtNetGallery.   In his lithographs the thick oil layer is absent, the thin pencil drawings usually show lighter colors and the figures are more on the move and give a humanistic expression.  Although many of his figures are frightening to some, the colors and movement will certainly give new live to their horizon.
