| Greg Benson is born in 1949 in Lima, Ohio,
USA. Attended college at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana. Bachelor of Science degree
1972.
Most of his adult life he has spent in the desert outside of Tucson, Arizona. From the
desert, where he lives, he studies the Western man. As a result of his study and
observation, ideas emerge and the painting comes. Each painting is a renewal of his
pursuit to visually define Western man: "what he is" and "who we are".
Greg Bensons great-grandfather was a full-blooded Cherokee and his
grandmother a half-breed Shawnee. His father was a first generation American, a Swede. He
is intrigued with the real history of America and pursues his research with a passion and
continually includes findings in his paintings.
His artwork was discovered by Marsha Tucker on a curating trip to Arizona in 1978.
